Hello, hoi, salut, tag, ciao, konnichi wa!
By: Martyn | July 13th, 2008Hello, my name is Martyn, and from hereon in, I am the captain of this ship. Most of you reading won’t need any introduction to the club, and for those of you looking in on the off-chance knowing nowt about our club - well, I shan’t bore you with a history of what we did or didn’t do decades ago because our crusade to the upper echelons of the Championship this season will do all the talking!
I will try and ramble/describe/rant about the season as best as I can as we cruise/trudge along, and I sincerely hope you join me for the ride. I assure you, any season involving our club is always interesting and exciting, even if the football is rubbish!
After one of the finest international tournaments in years begins to gather the first specks of metaphorical dust, my appetite for the new season has been well and truly whetted! EURO 2008 had me thoroughly engrossed throughout, and let’s just hope the Football League Championship can produce games of the calibre and excitement of Germany-Turkey, Germany-Portugal, Turkey-Czech Rep, and so on. Emphasis on that word hope
Anyway, my era on this blog begins during the favourite time of year for every agent and lazy hack: silly season! I must confess, I do allow myself to get sucked in on occasion. Of course by that I mean all summer long like a large majority of the red-blooded young football-loving population, I stand over the zebra carcass that is the sport section of the red-top newspapers (or their flashy websites with the pop-up adverts) like a frothing, carnivorous wild cat preparing for dinner.
Animal kingdom analogies aside, I’m a fervent back page viewer (voyeur?) of most publications in the hope of finding either a glamorous name or half decent player being linked to our club. And like the aforementioned wild cat, I’ll probably end up tucking in cutlery-less to the transfer feast right here on this blog. Along with, of course, guffawing at the ridiculously sublime rumours as and when they, erm, never actually happen!

Welcome to the Offside Martyn! Hope you enjoy your stay! It seems our two teams will be meeting in a few weeks! I was wondering if you would like to interview each other so our readers can learn about each others team. If interested, stop on by the Celtic offside and leave me a comment! Cheers!

Martyn - great to see you here and you’ve got a great squad with Cardiff City. I handle the blog with the Welsh national team so I’ll definitely be following closely to see how Danny Collins, Darcy Blake, Joe Ledley and Paul Parry are doing. Hated to see Aaron Ramsey head off to Arsenal btw - drop me a line anytime

Thanks for the messages guys.
J - look out for a young attacker called Jon Brown this season. He’s Welsh, and very much part of the first-team squad.
Matt - That’s a great idea, I’m gonna be away for most of the week after Tuesday, but if you have ideas or want any questions answered, I’ll try my best. I see the game is being televised, so I’m very much looking forward to watching it! Shame its not here in Cardiff: I remember (vaguely) when you lot came down here for a European Cup tie against Inter Cardiff several years ago!

Perhaps we could ask each other questions on AIM or MSN or by email. The whole time difference thing might make it tough, so email might be our best bet. If you want to drop me a line at paste86@yahoo.com and try and set something up, that’d be great. I’ve always been fascinated by Cardiff being a non-English side in the FA and the game should be a good one. Unfortunately, being in the States I’ll be watching on my computer as the local CSC won’t be up and running yet and I don’t get Sentanta.

Yes, Brown is on the U21 squad as well - are you heading to the friendly against Romania on August 20? I’m trying to juggle a few plans to be out in Wrexham for it - let me know if you will be.
