Me moaning about the moaner’s moaning about our moaning.

By: Martyn | July 14th, 2008

Look who’s moaning again. Right here. Well Dave, here’s why fans have questioned and regretted this whole sorry saga either way:

- Jones constantly spoke in if’s, would’s and will’s when it came to his pampered fellow Liverpudlian. The he’ll do this and that when he’s better charade saw our suit-wearing post-match interview giving bumbler become a measly pastiche of a man telling you his normal car is a Jag – it’s just been stuck in Kwik Fit for six months… honest! By promising so much, then fans seeing his promise deliver so little, is it any wonder some feel the need to bemoan being fed bullsh*t by the buffet-load?!

- Add to all that that not many wanted him here in the first place other than the young, the terminally stupid, and the Sky Sports sofa sloucher “Yeah I get down there once a season” suckers. I include myself in the original sceptic/downright detractor bracket, and as such, my lamenting of the deal still rankles from that sunny day last summer when we clinched the deal. Perhaps the moaning of some stems from an unrewarding subconscious-stuck smugness of being proved correct, but peeved nonetheless at the money and time the club wasted on this ineffectual operation. Perhaps the moaning of others is related purely to the wasted time and money.

- But perhaps the moaning of most derives from the indefatigable question of just what exactly is going at the club?! So much time has been squandered banking on a has-been re-joining our club for another year that we’ve now managed to fall behind yet again in the transfer market. Maybe we have a Plan B in store, but with the clowns in charge at present, I very much doubt it.

- It says a lot about the amount of respect we command as a club with the current motley crew in charge. After spending weeks last summer trying to woo him, catering to his every whim and medical need after we’d got him, and publicly backing him at every turn despite his drunkenness and anonymity, this is how he repays that faith! It’s little wonder we barely make a ripple in the transfer market waters if this is how crocked ex-superstars see and treat us.

- Correspondingly, the fact this whole business says how little our gaffer can work man-management magic irks. After struggling to get motivated all season, Fowler finally gets motivated when his mate gives him a call at a mid-table Premier League outfit. Sure, it’s the world’s biggest league, but what did Fowler have to lose last season by mustering up enthusiasm in a league very much in the public eye?

- We’ve been told by Fowler’s agent, Fowler himself, Dave Jones, and Peter Ridsdale how the player simply couldn’t resist the lure of one more crack at the Premier League: so why we couldn’t we have made the job simpler for him by making him get his arse on the pitch, scoring goals for us, and then allowing the likes of Blackburn to fawn all over him? We would have had another option for the duration of last season (one we paid for anyway), and would not have spent this summer being his doormat as it then would have been inevitable bigger and betters offers would flood in.

- Last but very much not least: This was the supposed replacement for multi-goal Anglo-Indian striker Michael Chopra. Gosh, that worked well then.
