Schaaf shafts us as we end up with less attackers than a Buddhist army.

By: Martyn | July 14th, 2008

On an ironic note regarding transfers, Dave Jones said right here that last year - owing to the woeful training ground situation - a player would have chosen a club like Burnley over ours. These days however, that player would choose us. Apparently. So step forward someone who perfectly epitomises the point. Yes, here he waddles… put your hands together for Remco van der Schaaf, Burnley’s latest acquisition! Although to be fair to the man from the Netherlands, the Clarets did offer him a longer contract than we did.

In the attacking department, we currently have Thompson, Brown, McCormack and Parry. I would be very surprised if Thommo is still around after the August 31st transfer deadline, especially as he and DJ clearly don’t see eye-to-eye, and neither does he appear to fit into the plans of our Liverpudlian gaffer. Therefore, perhaps we could do with 3 more strikers!! Just two days ago, that figure was at the one more to go stage.

Ched Evans - who shone during a victory for Norwich at Ninian Park last season - is a (sensible and ambitious intention indicating) loan target, so if our manager and chairman get their way, our pool of attacking options would be on the road to well endowed with the young Welshman added to that roster.

So which other striking ships need to/could dock in our harbour? Two players currently unattached are Darren Byfield and Antoine Sibierski. The acquisition of either of those two wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Two very different players, but result-unearthing juxtaposition isn’t the most important element: quality is. Are these two good enough? Would you be happy with an attacking roster of Parry, Brown, McCormack, Evans, Sibierski, and Byfield? I would be very much satisfied.

Further speculating aside (as that is what I have been doing in every shape, sense and form in the above paragraphs), just how many rabbits do the club think they can pull out of a hat?
